The term 'fuming' refers to the the chemical reaction with ammonia fumes and the natural tannic acids in certain woods. Robinia or to give it it's botanical name robinia pseudoacacia is one of those woods. The fuming causes the surface to take on a green tinge where the natural colour of robinia is pale straw and because the fuming is only a chemical reaction on the surface, so as soon as I carve through it the natural colour of the wood is exposed. The six panels on this piece are created by marking eight equidistant semi circles and then carving the areas where they overlap. The lid is a beautiful straight grained piece of Robinia with the usual 12tpi handcut thread unsuring a secure closure. The piece has been finished with multiple coats of an eco friendly hardwax oil which needs no maintainence other than the occasional dusting.
It measures 220mm H x 215mm D (8 ⅝" x 8 ½") and has a capacity of 3.6ltrs 220 cu in)
