Past Work
Vessels and hollow forms from past years, to show the range of Phil's work. These pieces are not for sale.
-
The Fire Within
Formed from a slice of small burr elm log with no real commercial value, found being used as a support to keep larger logs off the ground.
-
Elm Explosion
The most unusual piece of elm Phil has ever seen. It took about two years to finish, working through the voids and a giant split.
-
Deep Blue
Natural edge horse chestnut, coloured with lightfast dyes to enhance the otherwise hidden figure. Four different colours were used.
-
Flamin Purple #01
Horse chestnut burr, from a tree lost to a fungus. Dyes and stains make the figure pop, and the natural edge is enhanced with 22.5ct champagne gold leaf.
-
Flamin Purple #2
From the same tree, with its natural edge also enhanced with 22.5ct champagne gold leaf.
-
Blue Flame Series #01
Horse chestnut burr responds to colour with fantastic results. 100 mm x 200 mm.
-
Blue Flame Series #02
"I am just enhancing what nature has already provided."
-
Blue Flame Series #03
The colour transforms the beautiful but subdued figure of the burr.
Phil's wider work, along with his demonstrations and videos, is at Phil Irons Woodturning.
