This piece came from a tree that blew down in the hamlet of Weston on Avon, Warwickshire, during a storm in Feb 2023 narrowly missing two passing cars that were driving past. I know the farmer who offered me the trunk, they were going to cut it up for firewood if I didn't have it. The reason it fell over was down to the dreaded Ash Die Back disease which is killing vast numbers of our native Ash. Spalting is part of the process of the tree decaying, differrent fungii invade the wood to eat the cellulose causing the discolourations and patterns, however, once the wood is dry the process stops.
It’s been finished with an eco-friendly hardwax oil which requires no maintenance other than the occasional dusting.
It has a English Boxwood lid with a 12tpi handcut thread and a corresponding Robinia collar.
It measures 270mm H x 165mm D with a capacity of 3.0ltrs (10 ⅝" x 6 ½") (195 cu in)
