The timber for this single urn came from a 175 year old Black Walnut that was cut down to make way for a new house. Walnut is one of my favourite woods to work with, it’s stable, usually has wonderful colour and grain and this piece has a lovely deep dark chocolate colouring running to almost black.

I have filled the heart shakes with Blue Holographic epoxy making a feature of them and I used English Boxwood for the lid which has a hand cut 12tpi thread ensuring a secure closure. The urn has been finished with multiple coats of an eco friendly waterborne gloss lacquer which requires no maintenance other than dusting.
