'Cherry Rush" English Cherry and Bulrush single urn

This piece is a first, a collaboration between my sister Felicity and me. She has been running her business RUSH MATTERS for more than thirty years and so have I, its the first time we have made a piece together.

Rush Matters is a traditional craft business weaving English Bulrush Scirpus Lacustris harvested from punts on the river Ouse and Nene in England. Once the rush is dried and stored in a 15th century barn in Bedfordshire, we hand weave, plait, coil and stitch the rush into a wide range of products and floor matting.

I made the Cherry urn in the same way I always do then I passed it to her without a brief, letting her have free reign and this is the result. I love it.

It measures 310mm H x 170mm D and has a capacity of 3.6ltrs (12 ¼" H x 6 ¾" D and 220 cu in)
